WHEN YOU JUST NEED SOME
FREAKING FEEDBACK
Our book editors are ready to read through a significant portion of your book and provide detailed feedback on what’s working and what’s not, so that you can move forward in revisions with confidence, knowing exactly what you need to do to bring your first draft up to a publishable manuscript.
If you have a draft of your book that’s 20,000 words or more, you might have more of this experience:
- “I’m trying to make it all come together so that it flows and keeps my reader captivated. My first draft contains rambling, unconnected sections that need to have a theme running through.”
- “I need help organizing my edits in a way that gets me excited to continue to work and make the book better instead of just overwhelming me. Editing is my least favorite part of writing!”
- “I really struggle with staying on target. I get distracted and drop the book for months (or longer!), and then when I come back I’m so overwhelmed by the changes that I want to make but don’t know how that I feel like I need to keep leaving it alone.”
- “I don’t know how I will ever bridge that gap from having a book finished to actually having someone interested enough to read what I’ve written.”
If you have a first draft and need direction on how to revise it to bring it up to the level of a publishable manuscript, we have a solution for you.
You can set up a “Manuscript Evaluation” with one of our book editors, where your editor will review your manuscript and provide an honest assessment of what’s working well and what still needs work. You’ll receive a written evaluation and a call with your editor to talk through how you can approach revising your manuscript.

COMMON QUESTIONS
What counts as a “first draft” or a “manuscript”?
If you have written 20,000 words or more, you can set up a “Manuscript Evaluation” with one of our book editors, where your editor will review your manuscript and provide an honest assessment of what’s working well and what still needs work. You’ll receive a written evaluation and a call with your editor to talk through how you can approach revising your manuscript.
In this review and call, you will:
- Receive an honest assessment of how to trim out rambling and unconnected sections so that you can bring forward a strong theme running through your book.
- Get personalized feedback about how to make your book all come together so that it flows and keeps your reader captivated.
- Organize your revisions in a way that gets you excited to continue to work and make the book better instead of just overwhelming you, even if editing is your least favorite part of writing!
- Discover how to finally bridge that gap to have a book finished that is put together in the way that keeps the reader turning the pages from beginning, all the way to the end.
You’ll have written feedback in your hands about what’s working well in your book, what still needs revisions, and how to prioritize revising your draft so that it’s ready for publication.
Plus, you’ll have a phone call with your book editor, so you can walk through your personalized revision plan. Finally, you’ll have a plan of action to get your book ready to publish!
What if my book is long…like, really long?
We’ve seen ’em all. ;) It’s best practice in the publishing industry to actually review the first 50 pages of a book because the first 50 pages establish the main structure of the book, introduce the foundational concepts and characters, and reveal the bulk of the author’s writing style. We can offer LOADS of feedback on the first 50 pages that will also apply to the rest of the manuscript. (Honestly, if you pay someone to evaluate the “whole” manuscript, chances are they’ll most closely review the first 50 pages and then skim the rest, anyway!) This way, we have one, reasonable rate for all manuscript evaluations and provide you exactly the feedback you need for your next round of revisions.
Can I get feedback on my nonfiction book, memoir, novel, children’s book, etc?
YES! The book editors on our team who have stepped up to be available to you over the next few weeks are all aces in nonfiction and fiction genres. And if your book manuscript comes in and it’s NOT something we can speak well to, we’ll 100% refund your money AND connect you with someone who can. We want to make this a win-win for you.
After I’ve had the Manuscript Evaluation, can I get my money back?
Yes and no… it depends…
If you cancel your Manuscript Evaluation BEFORE your book editor has reviewed any material, we can give you 100% of your money back.
If you cancel your Manuscript Evaluation AFTER your book editor has already reviewed your material and prepared to give you feedback, we can give you 50% of your money back.
But after you’ve already had your call and received your Manuscript Evaluation, we cannot give you your money back. We believe in paying professionals for their expertise and time. If you go to a massage, you pay the masseuse. If an architect draws up plans for your house, you pay the architect. If a book editor lays out personalized guidance on how to best approach your book, we believe in paying that book editor.
And we hope you’re fully on board with us. :)
What if I need a little time to get a few documents together?
Totally fine! You can schedule your time with your editor for a few weeks from now, but if you’d like to take advantage of this offer, you’ll need to get your time booked in right away.
What if I’m still not sure?
You can get your time booked in now, take advantage of this offer, and if you truly want to back out before you send your book editor anything to review, we will absolutely refund 100% of your money—no hassle, no hoops to jump through, no risk.
